A Brief of Babcock Winery

Walt and Mona Babcock bought 110 acres of land in 1978 between Buellton and Lompoc alongside Highway 246. They start planting some variety of the cool climate in 20 acres. These were plants like Chardonnay, Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc.

Finally, they start selling their products after five years with some other pioneers of the Sta. Rita Hills. At the same year, they also decided to produce their own in a limited edition. And their son, Bryan starts spending his full-time on his family winery in 1984.

Now, let’s know about some of their tasting arrangements at their winery.

2014 Top Cream Chardonnay

This is a single block that comes from their estate lineup is a great and strongly flavored Chardonnay. After fermenting, it aged about nine months in new French oak. There are so many pears where some are peaches and some of them are honeydew melon.

Its medium-sized body comes with a smooth texture, which has been intensified by lime note or lemon. Also, its acidity is the medium type that keeps the balance of mineral and citrus notes. Moreover, it’s not just balanced and complex, it also delicious.

2014 Slice of Heaven Pinot Noir

It deserves its name appropriately and it might be the most accessible of their Pinots. When it comes to the flavors, it has an earthy cherry flavor that has intensified by spice, mineral, and barrel notes. As the producer doesn’t apply stems in their wine production, this may account for the charisma at its early age.

It comes with medium body along with good acidity and delicious, but it needs to get better for some years. You’ll get a tasty dinner at Solvang’s First and Oak after getting a taste at the winery. Since the wine is terrific with food, it’s on their list to serve the customers.

2014 Ocean’s Ghost Pinot Noir

An earthy cherry note is remaining here, but its complexity gets an intense profile. Also, you’ll find an attack of a bit mint note that will not usual to your previous experience for this type of Pinot Noir.

Because of more dark-fruit instead of Slice of Heaven, it takes on some raspberry tone alongside black pepper and baking spices.
